Electrical panel upgrade cost in Spokane
If your home still runs on a 100-amp panel, or breakers trip every time the kitchen and laundry run together, you have probably wondered what an upgrade costs. This guide gives honest published ranges and explains what actually moves the price. The figures below are general US numbers, not a quote for your home.
Typical price ranges
This Old House, updated March 31, 2026, reports a general US range of $1,300 to $3,000 for an upgrade from 100 to 200 amps. Scope, service equipment, utility work and local fees can change the total. Confirm what is included in a written quote. This is national planning context, not a Fast Electric Spokane price or a local quote.

What changes the price
- Amperage: 200A is the common target; 400A costs considerably more
- Service entrance: if the utility side must be upgraded, the utility and its schedule get involved
- Grounding and bonding: older homes often need grounding brought up to code
- Breakers: modern AFCI and GFCI breakers cost more than standard ones
- Permit and inspection fees
- Finishing: drywall, paint or siding repair after the swap
Permits and the power company
A panel upgrade is permit work. In Washington the permit is bought before work starts, and when you hire a contractor they must buy the permit. Depending on the address, permits and inspections are handled by the city or by Washington State Labor & Industries (L&I). The utility disconnects and reconnects power, and the inspection must pass before reconnection. Budget time for that coordination, not just the swap itself.
How to get a real number
Ranges only go so far. A real quote needs a look at your panel, service entrance and grounding, plus a load calculation if you are adding an EV charger or other big loads. Have your address and a photo of the panel ready when you call.
